Ficus Bonsai in Moss

Hand-wrapped into a living moss ball, Ficus microcarpa takes the Japanese kokedama form without a traditional pot. Native to South and Southeast Asia and parts of Australasia, this ficus bonsai tree has compact branching, glossy green leaves, and exposed banyan-style roots. The moss wrapping leaves the trunk visible, drawing attention to the tree's natural shape.

Tray and Stand Options

Each kokedama plant comes with a Tray for Basic Planter in either Grey Patina or White Patina. The included tray provides a simple resting place for the moss ball on a tabletop or desk. For a raised display, pair the tree with the Small Wrought Iron Planter Stand or Granite Stand, both sold separately.

A Living Bonsai

New shoots and leaves gradually add definition to the canopy as Ficus microcarpa grows. Occasional pruning helps keep its branching in proportion and preserve the compact shape of this indoor bonsai tree.

Product Care

Learn how to care for your Kokedama on our Kokedama Care Guide.

Light: Bright light with several hours of direct morning sun is ideal. The tree tolerates lower light indoors, though growth may slow. Keep away from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Water: When the moss ball feels light and dry, submerge about three-quarters of it in water for 10–15 minutes. Lift it out, gently squeeze away excess water, and return it to the tray. Avoid letting the moss ball sit in standing water.
Long-Term Care: As roots begin to emerge through the moss, the entire kokedama can be planted into a slightly larger container with well-draining potting soil to continue growing.

Shipping Logistics

These will be shipped directly to you from our grower.

Any other Bloomist purchases will be shipped separately. All orders will be shipped via UPS or USPS generally on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, and only in the Continental US; we cannot ship internationally nor to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.

Live plants are shipped on a weather-permitting basis. If the forecast calls for cold temperatures along the shipping route, we'll hold your plant for the minimum number of days required to ship it safely. Temperature swings in shipping can sometimes cause a temporary shock to a plant causing one or two leaves to yellow. This does not impact the health of the plant. Simply remove the leaves and care for the plant as directed. Live plants cannot be returned or exchanged. Contact us immediately if any issues with your order.
